Where To Get Green Dot Cards
There’s no one who hasn’t heard of the Green Dot cards but if you’re used to the conventional credit cards and want to switch to prepaid cards, you’re probably wondering where to get Green Dot cards. There are two ways to have your own Green Dot prepaid debit card – online and at stores.
When you apply for your prepaid card online and Green Dot approves it, you get free activation of up to $4.95. You will still be charged for all other fees, as indicated. The other way to get a Green Dot card is through a retail store. This won’t pose a problem since Green Dot is carried by the big retail chain outlets like Walmart, Rite Aid, Walgreens, CVS and Radio Shack, and the local stores, grocery shops and gasoline stations’ convenience stores. It costs $4.95 for the card at most stores; Walmart sells it for less at $3.95. However you get them, they have the same features and offer the same benefits.
The prepaid Green Dot cards are issued as a MasterCard debit card or a Visa debit card. Carrying any of these two globally recognized brand names, you are assured of your card being accepted at stores that honor the MasterCard or Visa names. Applying for the cards is easy, as long as you’re 18 years old or over and you are an American citizen or a legal alien and you reside in one of the 50 states in the USA. There is no credit check and they don’t require a bank account, great if you have credit rating issues. The card is sold in stores as temporary cards and you have to register online or by phone so they can send you the permanent personalized card with your name on it.
The card can be reloaded if your balance has diminished, unlike other prepaid cards that have to be thrown away when the balance reaches $0. Loading and reloading can be done by direct deposit or through the MoneyPak, a cash top-up card that is another Green Dot product. Reloading by direct deposit is free and there is a $10 bonus if the first direct deposit from an employer or a government agency is $250 or more. The $5.95 monthly maintenance fee can be waived if you load $1000 or more or you make at least 30 purchases within the month.
What’s so great about these Green Dot cards is you can only spend what is in the card, minus applicable fees. So there’s no way you can overdraw from the card and there are no interest fees, penalties and overdraft charges.
